I started Dogwood Media in December of 2014 with a Canon DSLR camera package I purchased on Amazon. It was a spur of the moment decision aided by a couple of beers and the Amazon App. I needed a creative way to propose to my girlfriend at the time and I thought making a short movie would be best since our favorite thing to do was watch movies. So, as I was two beers in and waiting for my brother to get off work, I impulse bought a Canon t5i and started my path toward video production as a full time career.
Since then, Dogwood has been built on YouTube tutorials, mentorships and lots of practice. One of those opportunities for practice presented itself with a last minute phone call about the WRAL Freedom Balloon Festival held in Fuquay-Varina last year. I was in a networking group and one of the members told me there was a hot air balloon festival that I should check out and that I could film the balloons on the media morning, before the thousands of attendees filled the Fuquay streets. The video below is the result of those few hours of filming along with some GoPro magic thanks to Glen with Bird's Eye Balloon Rides.
Why do I place this video as my second featured blog video?
Dogwood has grown a lot over the past three years and I'm very thankful for the opportunity to film this event again this year in what will be my new hometown, Fuquay-Varina. I'm excited to plant my family and business roots in this charming small town and to get to know the people and small businesses that make this community great. I encourage y'all to come out to the WRAL Freedom Balloon Festival this Memorial Day weekend and say hello.
